Are Criminals Posing as ICE?

In towns and cities across America, two kinds of uniforms have become familiar sights: the National Guard and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Both act in the name of the federal government — but that’s where the similarities end. One shows up to protect and rebuild communities in crisis. The other brings fear, confusion, and chaos to the very same neighborhoods.
The National Guard, a branch of the U.S.military, is trained to protect and help. They show up in response to natural disasters, emergencies, and crises, in clear uniforms, marked vehicles, and identification. They exist to bring aid, maintain order, and keep families safe.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), on the other hand, operates in a very different way. Many agents have been showing up to raids in plain clothes, heavily armed with masks and unmarked vehicles. They appear in neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces, often using intimidation tactics, violence, and force to make arrests.
ICE’s tactics have already created fear, chaos, and confusion among families and communities across the country. Now, their methods are putting the American public at even greater risk, setting an example that criminals can exploit. The FBI recently issued a bulletin warning that individuals impersonating ICE officers have carried out robberies, kidnappings and sexual assaults in multiple states. The impostors are using fake credentials, outdated protective gear, or vehicles marked “ICE” to appear legitimate.
The difference between the National Guard and ICE is the difference between order, proper training, and security versus chaos, fear, and uncertainty. While the Guard exists to bring structure and safety, ICE’s methods create fear and leave communities exposed — not just to their enforcement actions, but also to criminals exploiting the confusion they have created.
